WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR?
We've got a lot to be thankful for at SD Weekly Markets. We added to our team of cheerful and efficient Marketeers, opened the new Adams Avenue Farmers' Market this year, revived the North Park Farmers' Market, and continue to enjoy tremendous community support at the Little Italy Mercato. But mostly we're thankful for the incredibly hard work that California's family farmers do to bring an amazing variety of fresh produce directly to our shoppers each and every week, and for you who come out to support them by shopping local!

T-DAY'S IN THE BAG
Adams Avenue tomorrow will be our last market before Thanksgiving. Buy a 24-Carrot insulated shopping bags at the Info Booth and grab a fresh turkey at Da Le Ranch, eggs, farm fresh produce, cheese, desserts, zip up the top and keep your groceries cool while you stop by the local wine shop, or pick up extra tablecloths from a friend. |

NO-CAN DO GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE
Forget the canned beans and mushroom soup and do it from scratch! Trim ends off 1 pound of green beans from Kawano Farms and halve. Cook in boiling salted water until soft, drain and spread in baking dish. Saute a sliced yellow onion and a half pound sliced mushrooms in a little butter until soft, and add to baking dish. Melt a half cup butter in sauté pan, brown a half cup of flour, and whisk briskly until smooth, then slowly add one cup vegetable stock while stirring constantly. Pour mixture over veggies in baking dish and bake at 350 for 20 minutes. While that's baking, slice an onion, dip the slices in flour, and fry in hot oil until crispy. Throw those fried onions atop the casserole, mash them down a bit, and bake five more minutes. No-Can do!

LAST CALL FOR FRESH TRIMMINGS
Adams Avenue will be open the day before Thanksgiving, so stop by to stock up on all the trimmings for your holiday meal. Smit Orchards has fresh pecans (ask Audrey for her pie recipe), Kawano Farms brings the green beans and mushrooms, Suzie's is stocked with winter squashes as well as fresh herbs and salad greens, and Lone Oak Ranch has plenty of pomegranates (which make a great addition to cranberry sauce.) Taste Cheese has everything you need to design a cheese tray to impress, just garnish with persimmon slices and Hopkins' Almonds. Lisko Imports has Pumpkin Cheesecakes for dessert. Not cooking? Grab a pretty fall bouquet from Maldonado Growers and impress your hostess!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!
The North Park Market will be closed this Thursday so that our farmers, vendors, marketeers and shoppers can enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends. We'll be back the following Thursday with all your favorite fresh fruits and vegetables. Bring the kids to help us get ready for the Toyland Parade on December 4th. Then watch for special Holiday Village offerings in December so you can choose unique gifts for everyone on your list right here in your neighborhood.

SHOP SATURDAY FOR THANKSGIVING
If the rain kept you away last Saturday, get ready to stock up this week. In addition to your own groceries, ‘tis the season to choose hostess gifts to take to holiday parties. Cinnamon-roasted almonds in a decorative tin from Hopkins Ag, a vial of black truffle infused salt from She Sells Sea Salt, or a bottle of imported, barrel aged balsamic vinegar from Bistro Blends would be perfect for a foodie friend. While you shop, enjoy the trumpet stylings of Mercato favorite Justin Malizia (on a break from his duties with the United States Navy Band) and the salsa sounds of guitar duo Notas Antiguas.
