WHERE'S THE BEEF?
June 3rd marked the first day of the first annual Grass Fed Beef Week here in San Diego and the Little Italy Mercato is proud to have a local grass fed beef vendor of our own. Son Rise Ranch. The beef they bring each week to the market is grass fed and grass finished, making for leaner more flavorful cuts of meat.
Organizers of this week-long event describe it as offering "opportunities for foodies, the health conscious, and beef lovers looking for sustainable options to enjoy the unadulterated flavor that grass fed beef brings to the table, along with the nutritional benefits of lower fat and increased omega-3 fatty acids." With 6 restaurants and Whole Foods Hillcrest all participating you'll find specials featuring the "green" protein around town for you to sample and appreciate.
But there's no need to wait for events like this to come around. SonRise Ranch is at the Mercato every Saturday, as is Da Le Ranch with their pastured beef. Bring some home this week, prepare it simply and taste the difference. Whether it's a gorgeously marbled rib eye with sea salt from She Sells Sea Salt and pepper with some time on the grill, or thinly sliced flank steak and handfuls of your favorite veggies in a sir fry, come taste what grass fed is all about.
