Go Fig or Go Home
GETTING FIGGY WITH IT
Figs have been sighted at the Little Italy Farmers' Market! Pudwill Farms has Black Mission figs and Polito Family Farms is bringing their first St John's Italian figs of the season to the market this week. We love them warmed by the sun and eaten out of hand, but there are plenty of ways to use this calcium and iron-rich fruit. Think fig tarts, fig ice cream, fig bread and stewed figs with poultry. Or try this beautiful and impressive appetizer:
FIG BRUSCHETTA
Slice a baguette from Bread and Cie, brush with olive oil and toast lightly. Spread toasts with a layer of fresh ricotta from Taste Cheese. Top with ripe fig slices, and a garnish of basil microgreens from Suzie's Farm. Drizzle with fig-infused balsamic vinegar from Bistro Blends and dust lightly with Sel Grise from Salt Farms. Serve. Taste. Swoon.
